Hey everyone! So, I’m doing my best to get better ASAP, but my wrist is still giving me some trouble… I’m also having surgery for an unrelated condition (sinus problems~) at the beginning of February, so I’ll probably need to take a couple weeks off to recover either way. :( Anyway, I feel awful about the lack of updates & a lot of you have asked for guest comics or a contest or both, so that’s what we’re gonna do! Both! FYI, the contest will be on whether I’m able to update or not!

It’s a Doctor Cat comic contest! It can be anything Doctor-Cat-related, really, as long as it’s in comic form. The contest will be running from now until Feb. 16th Feb 17th!
We’ll be choosing winner(s) each week, along with one grand prize winner after the end of the contest. My lovely assistant will also be giving a prize based mainly on the writing, so you don’t have to be a great artist to enter. :)
The weekly winners will be chosen from entries submitted up until Thursday evening (midnight EST) of each week! There will be winner(s) posted each week from Jan. 27th through Feb. 17th. After that, we’ll choose our grand prize/writing prize winners. If I’m too out of it (surgery, remember?) to post the winner on a Friday, no worries, there will still be a winner! It’ll just be announced later.
Please only submit one entry per person, per week! Only send original work, please! You can submit your entry as an attachment to contest@doctorcatmd.com along with your name and website, if you have one.

You could use a program like gimp, a free photoshop substitute. It has all the nice drawing features!
Unfortunately, it’s not easy to learn, so you could draw it by hand, and then scan it in!

Well, I was thinking speech bubbles, captions, some kind of dialogue…ah, but I guess it doesn’t really need words… I’m gonna go change that rule, I think you guys can decide for yourselves what’s considered a comic. I’m pretty much OK with any interpretation. Sorry for the confusion!

If it’s our own original art and everything, can we include parodies? Not like, scene for scene copies, just little references to other works?
But then I suppose there’s the problem of other people not getting the references…

Is there any specific way the comic should be written or drawn? Like: Tablet, Computer or Paper? I perfer paper, but can do either tablet or computer.

Yeah, I had an appointment with a therapist… just trying out a new wrist brace for now. I…watch a lot of food network… 8(
I’m glad to know you at least got to see the therapist. Repetitive strain is a bummer. Maybe you could learn to draw with your other hand? Hee heee; imagine how that would look!

I might have to give it a try. Have you been wrist strong with Colbert yet? (I’m sure you get asked that all the time now, but it’s my first comment so I don’t know.)
Also, what is your view on us making up characters for the same world, so we don’t mess with The Doctor himself, but still making it Doctor related? Also Also, do you have any size specifications (file or dimensions) for what is submitted?
Yeah, making up your own characters should be fine. Of course you’re free to use any of the existing characters too.
Also files should ideally be at least about 600px wide. Bigger files are fine, I can always resize ‘em for the site.

Oh, I wanna do this. I have no idea what the story would be, but my little bro wants me to draw Dr. Cat working at Best Buy. I think I’ll do that just to make him happy, regardless of the lack of storyline. I’ll try and fit it in somehow…

It’d be best if it’s at least about 600px wide, but it can be any height. If it’s too big, I can always resize it for the site. :)
